Community Organizing & Leadership

Eastside Community Network fosters and supports resident leaders and grassroots organizations through the LEAP Coalition and capacity building initiatives.

Our Work

Lower Eastside Action Plan (LEAP) Coalition

The Lower Eastside Action Plan (LEAP) Coalition is an award-winning plan and community-driven initiative that engages residents in a process of transforming open space and stabilizing neighborhoods. ECN works with a host of LEAP Coalition committees to implement the plan and develop LEAP-aligned programs.

Good Stock Detroit

Eastside Community Network sponsors Good Stock Detroit — a community development organization that aims to amplify resident voice, spur housing and commercial development, and catalyze other economic investments in the neighborhoods bounded by Gratiot/I-94 to the North, Mack Ave to the South, St. Jean to the East, and Van Dyke to the West. The organization is led by a steering committee whose purpose is to build community capacity so that neighbors can target and plan for themselves and their neighborhoods in a sustainable and achievable way.

LEAP Sustainability Fellowship

Implemented in partnership with the Climate Equity Department, the LEAP Sustainability Fellowship builds the capacity of resident leaders who are interested in developing their own climate sustainability projects for the community. Throughout the 1-year training and development program, fellows work to create a shared definition of sustainability and community leadership - and create projects that align with those definitions. Fellows receive stipends and are eligible for grants to fund their projects.
